  • Stylistic variations have emerged and evolved since the Italian Renaissance for eg. romantic-, classical-, neoclassical and contemporary- ballet
  • Perhaps the most widely known and performed ballet style is late Romantic ballet, a classical style that focuses on female dancers (ballerinas) and features pointe work, flowing and precise movements, and often presents the female dancers in traditional, short white tutus

  • the most famous Dutch ballet dancer
  • born 4 August 1933 in Amsterdam, died on 19 January 2012
  • choreographer, company director and writer
  • began taking ballet lessons at age 16
  • choreographed more than fifty ballets
  • he was a homosexual with an active political sensibility
